Frequently Asked Questions

How long does therapy last?

How long you stay in therapy is up to you. Some people come with a specific problem and goals in mind, while others are looking for longer-term care. Depending on the severity of your current symptoms, effective treatment often lasts from 4 weeks to 6 months or longer. We will work together to determine the best fit for you, and we will frequently re-evaluate your progress and adjust as necessary. However, there is no commitment to a certain amount of sessions once you begin.

Do you take insurance?

Some of my fees may be covered by some insurance providers. Please refer to the fees page for more information.

Can you prescribe medication?

As a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-A), the law does not allow me to prescribe medications. However, I am trained and authorized to assess and diagnose a wide range of psychopathologies. When applicable, we will discuss the evidence-based recommended treatments for a diagnosis, and if medication is recommended, I will be happy to refer you to a general practitioner or psychiatrist near you for medical follow-up.

Can I do therapy in French?

I am fluent in both English and French. If you feel more comfortable doing therapy in French, please book a free 15-minute consultation so that we can discuss this option.

Do you see children for therapy?

I currently treat adolescents ages 14 and over in therapy. If your child is younger than 14, you can contact me for referrals.

Is therapy confidential?

I follow the American Counseling Association’s (ACA) code of ethics and the Texas Code of Behavioral Health which both protect a client’s right to confidentiality for what is said to his/her counselor. There are a few exceptions to this rule: suspected or reported child, elder, or dependent adult abuse or neglect; suspected imminent harm to yourself or someone else, request by a court for records (subpoena).

I work for a non-profit or religious organization, will my information be shared with my sending organization?

As is the case with any client, your information will be kept confidential. The same exceptions to confidentiality will apply to you as any other client (see previous question). Even if they request it, I will not share information from our sessions with your sending organization unless you have filled out a release of information with me and we have discussed what information will be shared. I am not even allowed to confirm or deny if you are a client.
